Description
 
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a disease of the lungs where obstructed airways and cause you trouble breathing. Emphysema and chronic asthmatic bronchitis are the two main conditions that can lead to COPD. Damage to the airways disrupts the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs.

Cause

COPD is mostly caused by smoking that has occurred in the long term. This disease can be prevented by not smoking or quit smoking as soon as possible. Damage to the lungs can not be cured, so treatment focuses on controlling symptoms and minimizing further damage. COPD mainly refers to the obstruction in the lungs caused by chronic asthmatic bronchitis and emphysema.

Symptom

In general, the symptoms of COPD did not appear until lung damage has been significant, and the disease can worsen over time. Signs and symptoms of COPD can vary, but most people have symptoms like these : 
  • Shortness of breath  
  • Sigh  
  • Chest tightness  
  • Chronic cough
Treatment

There is no cure for COPD, and you can not repair damage to the lungs. However, treatment can control symptoms of COPD and reduce the risk of complications. Your doctor may suggest you take medication to treat the symptoms and complications of COPD. You can take some medications such as bronchodilators, steroid inhalers and antibiotics.
